Spirit Week!

Last week Thoreau Elementary was celebrating Spirit Week. A 4th grader came into their classroom the week before to tell them all about the special dress up days and they came home planning out their wardrobe for the week to come.

First day ... Pajama Day. Since Monday is their share day they thought it was the coolest to do their show and tell in their PJ's. I have a cute video that I can only view sideways where B talks methodically about what Pajama Day is and such. Didn't think you would want to watch it laying down.

Scootering to school in the pajamas!

Day number two was Disguise Day. Henry wanted to be Bat Man but we couldn't find his mask so instead he decided on a Badger fan complete with full red outfit, W's on his cheeks and he safety pinned pictures of the hockey and foot ball players on his clothing! Bryn was a dancer after she saw this outfit that I bought at a recent garage sale and even had her hair pulled back into a pony.

They all got a laugh when Mrs. Carlson walked out on the playground with her disguise on!!
Day 3... Crazy hair day. This is what Henry had been waiting for ALL week. He has talked about a mohawk forever and asked us daily if we had bought him any hair gel for his do. Jay worked for at least 30 minutes getting his hair to stand up with the super mega hold gel AND hair spray (thanks to Mallots) and it stayed put ALL day.
B didn't quite know what she wanted (which isn't a surprise) other than lots of colors! Luckily Santa had brought her some braids and colored curls that clip onto hair so her do was easy!

Day number 4..... sports day! Bryn flirted with the idea of a cheerleader but then decided on being a runner! She wore her Bellin run shirt, found one of my medals and brought a race bib too.

Henry as the chuck taylor wearing UW football player!

Only in Madison would the last day of Spirit Week be Political Action Day! I didn't know what they should do but they had it figured out. Over the last month or so they have managed to collect some cool pro-union, solidarity, public employee buttons so they thought they should wear them to school.

Leave it to Henry to find a dollar bill and pin it underneath his button which reads "It's Not About The Money" and these were pinned to his U.S. Presidents shirt! He ended up giving his dollar to a friend of his in class who told him that she didn't have many dollar bills and he decided that since she was so nice, he should give it to her!

As a footnote... Every week their teacher gives some kiddos "shout outs" in their weekly newsletter home to parents. H and B both got a shout out this week and read as follows;

"Shout out to Henry! Henry totally embraced spirit week. Nice do!"

My favorite shout out was to Bryn which read "Shout out to Bryn! Bryn, you continue to be a good friend and peace maker. Thank you!"
